In commemoration to World Refugee Day, ‘Sze Women of Hope’ hosted a event at our studio to raise more awareness on refugees in Malaysia. Local refugee organizations participated in our event and they are, the Rohingya Women Development Network (RWDN), ELHAM and the Tanma Federation which consists of 5 groups (Ingraw, Pawghee, CWO, Kaoprise and Mangtha). Furthermore, we were joined by two representatives from the UNHCR to witness the event.
Following the opening of the event, some organizations had representatives to conduct empowerment speeches. Founder and director of RWDN, Sharifah conducted a speech regarding Women refugee empowerment. Ann, owner of Happy Fluff Pet Business and business provider partner of Sze proudly shared her engagement with refugees and how it would help her business in the near future. Our last speaker, Michelle, also a business provider partner of Sze and the owner of Kintry bakery spoke to the crowd about using her business as a bridge to offer income opportunities for refugees.
After the speech, we were accompanied by girls from the Mon refugee education centre and their wonderful dance performance.
All the guests enjoyed the games with some small gifts as prizes towards the end of the event. We are grateful to celebrate world refugee day with all our friends and we will endeavor to support them in the future.
